The Children of Iraq

Someone has put together some honest images from Iraq.

People have learnt how to systematically lie with pictures, now someone has remembered how to tell the truth.

Be careful. Even after all the newscasts and up to the minute reports, you won't be prepared for this. It seems that's not what news is for anymore. (nb: it gets particularly graphic towards the end, you have been warned).

The blog it's linked to is also quite informative.

And finally a quote:

Compassion is an unstable emotion. It needs to be translated into action, or it withers.

The question is what to do with the feelings that have been aroused, the knowledge that has been communicated. People don't become inured to what they are shown because of the quantity of images dumped on them. It is passivity that dulls feeling.

You could of course start by expressing your thoughts in a comment below... or something more radical perhaps? Maybe even A Letter!

  • Wow. That's probably the most powerful photo essay I've ever seen.
