Rythms of Grace
There's this blog, see, called Rythms of Grace, by an African-American christian author. She's really quite talented, has a flair for words (eg. her site motto "I'm strange, but wonderful. Don't laugh. You are too. :)") and as a black mother, with numerous kids, living in America she has a strong connection to people in need.
This post is about the continuing genocide in Darfur, Sudan. However, as with more than a few of her posts, its about a lot more than that.
Here's a teaser to get you in:
I'm a crier. Always have been. During those cheesy tearjerkers when everybody is laughing and shaking their heads, my husband doesn't even look at me, but he knows.
"You're crying, aren't you, Mary?"
I sniffle. "Maybe . . ."
For the same reason, my family grows concerned when I inch closer to a special news report or get into bed with a copy of Send! Magazine or Voice of the Martyrs or start reading stories like the one I read today about an ex-slave who survived being crucified by his master. They know that after such times, I want to sell our raggedy belongings and give the three bucks we'd get to somebody, somewhere. They know that during these times I feel worthless, helpless and not a little bit selfish.
Read the whole thing, it's really worth it...
