Christians starting to 'get' poverty

The Christian Century has another article in the long line of "Wow, not all Christians want to kill the planet and eat the poor (even in America)!" pieces. This time the focus is on the younger generation, specifically those on evangelical campuses.

Our old friend Rich Cizik makes another appearance, but overall the picture that emerges is of a conservative evangelical backlash against the misplaced priorities of the Religious Right. Perhaps they would be better named the Right-Wing Religious, since for them 'right-wing' is descriptive and 'religious' is merely incidental.

It seems that, where the Pro-Choice litmus test of the Democratic Party originally alienated so many evangelicals from that party, the Freemarket litmus test of the new Republicans is beginning to push them the other way. It's notable that most political movement at the moment tends to be about groups being alienated from one or another party rather than being given something they're enthusiastic about to draw them into a party.
