Former US Lt. General against the war

You may've heard of the spate of recently retired generals blasting Bush and especially Rumsfeld for the duo's mishandling of Iraq. Foreign Policy magazine has a not-so-recently retired Lt. General writing a very short but incredibly deft piece on why even the most persuasive arguments for 'staying the course' are duplicitous rubbish.

From civil war to the need for further training of Iraqi soldiers to the moral of US troops Odom skewers the standard lines from the administration. (Briefly: there already is a civil war, Iraqi forces have been well trained since the Iran/Iraq war in 1980 and withdrawing will only improve the moral of troops who for the most part want to come home now).

Most damningly he portrays Bush as a witless pawn of Iranian conniving against Iraq (as retribution for the US backed Iraqi invasion of Iran) and of al Qaeda provocation, since they find it a lot easier to engage and kill Americans when they move in next door than when they're on the other side of the planet.
