Prophecies of Microsoft

I've stumbled across an article by a very strange Seattlian who manages to be both an ex-Microsoft employee and currently working for a non-profit technology company and writing for a progressive political journal (akin in the eyes of some to a person who looks back with fondness on their days as a Klansman while doing volunteer work for New Internationalist).

He was actually enamoured with Windows for a long time but recently decided to try something else - Apple's OS X, in fact - and has been thoroughly converted. He also notes that OS X is based heavily on open source software and refers a few times to Linux and especially Sun's super slick bundling of Linux that is cheap and very easy to use. Most interestingly he reflects on Microsoft's business strategy and reads the tea leaves, forseeing dark days ahead for Microsoft because they are held hostage by a flagship product (and the associated profit streams) and are therefore unwilling to try anything innovative if it might threaten that cash cow.
